IDEA 4 (For fall planting season)

Pick Up A Phone Before You Pick Up A Shovel

Fall’s a great time to plant trees and tackle other landscaping projects. But at least 48 hours before you dig, call 811. This national hotline will arrange to have utility lines properly identified and marked on your property. It not only saves you time and money — it's the law.

By taking a minute to make this call, you could prevent days of disruption to telephone service, water, cable TV, sewer, electric power or other underground utility lines. (COMPANY NAME) thanks you in advance for your cooperation in this community effort.

IDEA 5 (For October)

Carve The Cost Of Your Wireless Phone Service

Sure, carving pumpkins gives you jack o’ lanterns for Halloween. But carving the cost of your wireless phone service gives you savings all year long. For example, does your current wireless plan make you wait until 7 pm or later to take advantage of unlimited night calling? If so, you may be able to cut costs with a wireless plan from (COMPANY NAME). Our nights start at 5 pm weekdays, so you can enjoy more hours of free calls. Talk to whomever you want for as long as you want without using any minutes or paying long distance charges. If you’d like to carve out a better wireless deal, make the switch to (COMPANY NAME). Call us at (PHONE NUMBER) or visit (WEBSITE LINK).

Are You Ready For The Digital TV Conversion?

On February 17, 2009, analog TV broadcasting will end and programming will be transmitted using digital signals. You do NOT need to take action if:

  • You’re currently receiving digital/cable TV service from (COMPANY NAME) or another cable or satellite provider.
  • You have a digital TV with a digital tuner. If you’re not sure, ask your electronics dealer or your TV’s manufacturer.

However, if either of the following situations applies to you, you’ll need to take action prior to February 17:

  • You’re currently using rabbit ears or outdoor antennas to receive over-the-air TV signals.
  • You have an older, analog-only TV. (If your TV is more than 10 years old, it’s probably not digital.)

What action do you need to take? You have a few options. You can sign up for digital/cable TV service, purchase a new digital-ready TV, or get a converter box for your analog-only TV to allow you to receive digital signals.

The U.S. government is offering up to two $40 coupons per household to help pay for the cost of certified converter boxes. For more details, visit www.DTV2009.gov or call 1-888-DTV-2009.

Make A Corded Phone Part Of Your Storm Plan

When bad weather arrives, will your family be prepared? Severe storms and heavy winds can easily disrupt electrical service. Or a power outage could occur for other reasons. One item to be sure and have on hand is a corded landline phone, since it does not require electricity and could be your back-up method of communication during and after a storm.

It’s important for you to know:

  • Cordless phones require electricity and will not continue to work during a power outage.
  • Cellular systems and towers are not required to provide back-up power, so cell phones may not operate during a power outage either.

For safety’s sake, (COMPANY NAME) urges you to always have at least one corded phone in your home. For more information about the importance of having a corded phone, call us at (PHONE NUMBER).

IDEA 11

Be Prepared When Calling The Help Desk

For Safety’s Sake, Unplug When Lightning Strikes

During thunderstorms, it’s important to protect yourself and your vulnerable electronics by being informed and prepared. Lightning can travel from outside your home to inside your home (and to you) through materials that conduct electricity including electrical wiring, phone lines, water, and plumbing.

To help minimize your risk, remember these safety guidelines:

  • Unplug your home electronics before thunderstorms arrive.
  • Be sure to disconnect all wiring to TVs and computers, including phone lines and cable connections.
  • Never touch wiring during a thunderstorm — it’s too late to unplug your electronics if thunderstorms are close. (If you count 30 seconds or less from when you see lightning to when you hear thunder, you missed your chance to unplug your home electronics.)
